Handbound Books

Yesterday I sat down and made some handbound books. For the covers I used old Posters – partly my own, partly found. I always keep my ideas in sketchbooks but it’s even better if you have a nice one like this! Happy Holidays everyone!

Autorschaft im Film*the first 3 Posters

Together with Tobias Mikl I did 6 posters for this semesters lecture series for the pathway “Film and Video” called “Autorschaft im Film (heute)” . To show the dynamic of film (frame after frame) we played with typography which runs over 2 posters at once. Each Backgroundpicture and -text belongs to a film the speaker has produced or directed. So far we produced the first 3 posters! * A1 silkscreen poster printed in 3 colors*

The Lonely Life

This is a continuation from the “Lost in Translation” Symbol booklet that I posted early. It’s A4 this time and contains more moods, some changed symbold, graphic elements and alternative text fragments. I also added the “Fotoroman” booklet from Pathwayweek and bound it to the front. I think I’m getting closer to my actual subject now!

Sorry to disturb you but I’m lost.

Susanne Bürner was hosting the “Fotoroman” Project during this semesters Pathwayweek (Projectweek). Daniel and I decided to use a dialogue from “Lost in Translation” (the same one that I use for a diffrent project ->see last post) to create a small Fotoroman of our own. All booklets were bound together. See all photographs on my Flickr page!

Lost in Translation/Symbol Dialogue

Sorry for the long BLOGOUT. The Semester started off and things have been crazy since. But now I want to show you some results of the last week. This year I’m attending Joost Bottema’s Project called “Writing Images”. We’re still in the process of finding the our subjects for the final product of this course. We started off symbolizing “monkeysounds” and translating these symbols into a dialogue which was picked individually. I chose a dialogue from “Lost in Translation” where Bob talks to his wife on the phone. I tried to develope a symbol system for each character and it’s degree of interaction with the other person. It was more important to work with what is not said or what is actually meant–the “subtext”, if you will. The next step was to create some kind of “moodboard/booklet” to get closer to a topic or what could do develope out of it. I haven’t really found the right subject nor do I know where this going, yet. But I think it might be going in the direction of “estrangement in a relationship”. A couple more months to go on this project, though. I will keep you updated!
